summer borscht, redux

i made this borscht again for soup swap, a clear summer (chilled) borscht that i fell in love with last year. am not totally convinced it came off as good as it did last year, but here's hoping. what it would go perfect with is another absurdly hot day, but as it is, i am grateful to be cooking in these unseasonably cool days.
tomorrow's soup swap will be at nina's pie day festivity, which is something of a south brooklyn dream come true (a quart of soup and many many pies!) so while the borscht was simmering, i put together this spiced plum pie. my spice habits are all clearly reflected here: cardamom, nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves. these are all the spices that i put in my coffee as i brew it each morning. i can't wait to see (and taste! what everyone else has made.
